Abstract

In the early nineteeth century, Kageki Kagawa, who was one of the innovators in the field of waka (Japanese poetry) at the time, and those in his affiliated school, the Keien School, had begun to exert their influence all over the country, while confronting the poets in the Nijo School, who had followed the mediaval tradition, and those in the Kokugaku School (a school of the Japanese classics) which had just emerged. This paper reports the poetic career of Kodo Takahashi of the Keien School in Gifu and the activities of the Keien poets in the same area on the basis of the data newly provided.
